L'art de profiter d'un été tranquille dans le sud de la France
A Different Pace of Life
Part of the appeal of the South of France has always been the pace of life. Days unfold more slowly here, shaped less by schedules and more by the weather, the landscape, and stretches of time spent outdoors.
At Domaine de la Vène, summer days rarely follow a strict plan. Mornings often begin quietly, with coffee outside before the heat settles over the hills. Guests head to the local markets, pick up fresh bread and fruit for breakfast, or spend the first part of the day exploring nearby villages and vineyards before returning to the house for lunch.
Long Afternoons & Late Dinners
By mid-afternoon, the estate becomes particularly peaceful. The shutters close against the heat, the pool becomes the centre of the day, and conversations stretch lazily between swims, books, and perhaps an afternoon sleep.
As the temperature cools in the evening, life shifts outdoors again. Dinner is usually a relaxed affair, with people gathering around the table long after the food has finished, often staying outside until the hills around the estate fall quiet.
The Corbières Landscape
The Corbières itself feels wilder and quieter than many better-known parts of the south of France. Vineyards stretch through the hills in every direction, medieval villages appear unexpectedly along winding roads, and even in the height of summer, there are moments where the landscape feels almost untouched.
Carcassonne sits just twenty-five minutes away, while the Mediterranean coast can be reached in around an hour, making it easy to combine slower days at the house with time exploring the wider region.
Time Together
Modern life rarely leaves much room for long, unstructured time together. Here, people naturally slow down. Meals become occasions in themselves, afternoons drift into evenings, and people settle into a much slower rhythm of life.
Domaine de la Vène is available for private stays, celebrations, and extended summer gatherings in the south of France.
