Lakes, Rivers & Coast

From a river pool below an old stone bridge to the Mediterranean itself, this is wild swimming country. A dammed pool in the shadow of an abbey at Lagrasse, a lake within walking distance at Cavayère, sandy beaches and quiet coves an hour from the door, every stretch of water here has its own rhythm and charm.

Wild Swimming

Lagrasse, a beautiful village that is home to a well-known abbey, dams the River Orbieu each summer to form a natural pool in the village.

A little further along the same river, Ribaute has a pretty stone bridge, calm clear water and a small waterfall the children can play in, as well as a more adventurous jump from the high arched bridge into the deep pool below.

On hot days, Lac de la Cavayère is a short walk from the Domaine and offers a range of water activities.

The Mediterranean Coast

Under an hour away, the Languedoc coastline moves between sandy beaches, marshlands and rocky outcrops long favoured by painters and poets. Our favourite stop is Biquet Plage at Leucate, a laid-back restaurant metres from the shore serving fresh fish and tapas-style platters. Narbonne Plage, Gruissan and Port-la-Nouvelle are all within easy reach for a day trip.
